Bookspotting: Week 30, 100 FOLLOWER GIVEAWAY EDITION!

It's been just a few days since my last bookspotting post, which wrapped-up my epic travel summer. I haven't had time to spot too many books since then, but I did count three books that were too far away for me to identify on my regular commute. I saw a young girl reading a graphic novel while waiting for the train with her mother. I spent an afternoon in a coffee shop where I noticed a young woman reading How Starbucks Saved My Life by Michael Gill.

Now that I'm getting settled in Hong Kong, it is time to announce my 100 FOLLOWER GIVEAWAY! I've had an incredible 30 weeks reviewing books, photographing walking tours, and spotting books around Hong Kong. In honor of you lovely people, who have consistently commented on and supported this blog, I am giving away a $15 Amazon.com gift certificate. This giveaway is open worldwide. Here are the rules: simply leave a comment telling one book that you have spotted someone reading in public and where you were. It's okay if you knew the person you saw reading. The giveaway will be open until September 12th, which is the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival in Hong Kong.

I hope you've noticed that along with this giveaway I am launching a blog redesign. This seriously cool header was designed by my wildly talented sister Lindsay. Thanks!

Why not follow me on twitter while you're here? I'd love to chat.

  3. I, too, like the new header...

Hm. I almost never see anyone reading books in public... Especially here in Baytown, Tx.

But I was in San Antonio last week, and saw an older man reading a black and red covered Tom Clancy. I didn't catch the title, though...

I spotted my daughter reading the Nanny McPhee book at home. She loved the movie, so now she wants to read the book!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  5. Well done on 100 followers! On Sunday on the train to Sham Shui Po I sat beside a young Muslim woman in headscarf and embroidered gown. She was reading,in English, a book with the word "Mal'ahk" visible at the top of a page. At first I assumed it was a holy scripture...before the penny dropped and I realised she was reading Dan Brown's The lost symbol!

  7. Congrats on your 100th follower!! I just love your blog! The last book I remember seeing was The Adventures of Augie March by Saul Bellow. I went to school registration with my son and ran into another mom. She had this book and I was reading another, but we ended up talking the whole time.

  8. Congratulations on surpassing 100 followers! In a surgical waiting room this week, I saw one man reading "Hell's Corner" by David Baldacci and another man reading "A Billion Wicked Thoughts." I, myself, brought along "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card to pass the time. (BTW, I am experiencing problems signing in to comment but I bet you can guess who I am.)

  9. Yay for people following! I find this blog a great place to start for new reading material. Yesterday I saw a fellow teacher re-reading Huckleberry Fin in preparation for the start of the new school year :)

  10. I see people read on the bus, but I never get close enough to see what they read :( and even harder to see if they're using an e-reader! I felt like I am being too nosy if I try to see what they are reading... and they must not have been books I'd read because I didn't recognize the cover. SO not sure if this post would count :(

Congrats on 100 followers! I grew up in HK so I look forward to reading about your adventure.

  13. I just happened to see this blog and found it quite interesting. Hope you'll have thousands of readers in the future.

I saw a man reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland at a Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong. It's interesting.

  14. FABULOUS header! I was just admiring it when I saw the competition link.

A book I have seen read in public lately is a Manga that both hubby and I love called One Piece. Although I admit I prefer the subtitled cartoon version, he has devoured all of the comic version. It's wildly popular over here in Taiwan.

Yay 100 followers! It'll be 200 before you know it!

  15. A lovely header and an elegant style. Hope you can get a lot of new ideas from this special place - Hong Kong ( Fragrant Harbour ).
I saw a lady reading LA Candy by Lauren Conrad on the train from the New Territories to Kowloon. I had no ideas about the book. But it is quite interesting to spot someone
reading and post a comment here.
