Writing Video: Feedback

On getting feedback on the first draft of my book and joining a writers' group. See the writing video tab for more about what I've learned on my writing journey.

  1. I so love watch I these videos and seeing where you are at with this whole writing thing. Thanks for sharing!

So so true what you say here. Feedback is so critically important and being able to take what people tell you is a huge part of that. Personally I love getting feedback, and improving but my time in the position of an editor has shown me that not all people can handle it. I can't wait to some day read this book!

    1. Thanks Kath! I'm glad these are turning out to be interesting. I was terrified by the idea of putting videos of myself on the internet :).

It's great that you have the chance to see both sides as an editor. I'm sure it helps you sympathize with your writers, while reminding you how important it is to hear other perspectives on your own work.

  2. This is great! I know it can be rough in the beginning to get feedback, but it is the best thing you can do for your writing--and it helps you develop a tough skin, which you'll need throughout your writing career. Your writers' groups sounds wonderful, as does the friend from home who sent her comments. Have fun revising! I always enjoy it when people give me suggestions on how to fix specific parts of my manuscript.

    1. Thanks Susan. I definitely remember the first time I read something aloud, which I felt like I had really polished, and people had TONS of comments on how to make it better. It helped me get my head in order about how important it is to get this kind of feedback and really listen to it.

  3. Thanks, Shannon. You starts with such a beautiful smile, captivating the viewer to watch. As you said, feedback is crucial. And it's better to get lots of criticism in order to improve the novel. I joined a writer's group in my local public library and before that another smaller group, and one of their idea how to change the first chapter was very helpful. I wonder if you know about about this online literary blog being run from Hong Kong.

They might have some events or a writing group in HK. And you can also submit a short story, poem or an essay and if they'll publish it, you'll some published credit.
