Bookspotting: Week 12

This week I saw a girl on the train reading The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I think her copy was a Chinese translation, but the title on the cover was in English. I saw a couple working at a coffee shop with a copy of Charlotte's Web on the table. Another man in another coffee shop had A Little Knowledge by Michael Macrone. I passed a teenage boy at the open air market in Wanchai who was carrying the British edition of the first Harry Potter book. I counted five Chinese books this week, one Lonely Planet Hong Kong guidebook and two more English paperbacks that were too far away for me to read the titles. All in all it was a very successful bookspotting week for me.

What are people reading in your town this week?

  1. I went to the spa yesterday and I saw several women with books. One was reading Jodi Piccolt's "The Pact," another was reading "The Vixen Manual" by Karrin Steffans. Of course most of the women were not reading at all...they were lounging by the pool or packing their bodies with mud. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny California day :-)

  2. I saw a man reading ''Miss Seetoh in the world'' at a Times Bookstore. The book is by a Singaporean writer Catherine Lim. He stood there reading for a while but was unsure whether he eventually bought the book. He was still standing with book in hands and eyes glued down when I left.

  3. Opportunities for bookspotting have been curtailed this week because I have been attending to the packing! On my flight from Bristol to Edinburgh on Thursday I saw a man reading a Clive Cussler, another with a management textbook amd two other women reading Kindles but I couldn't see what they were reading.

  4. It sounds like there have been a lot of books around this week! I haven't heard of "Miss Seetoh in the World" before.

It's nice to hear that the Kindles are multiplying, too. Joyce, I hope your packing is going well. The weather has been absolutely perfect in HK for the last few days.
